Vision

We hope to engage non-Chinese Americans in a constructive dialogue towards promoting greater freedom, equality, and protection of minority rights. In our efforts to encourage a diversity of ideas and knowledge, we have structured the conference to include interactive workshops and group-based activities. Our aim is that, through these modes of peer-to-peer learning, conference participants will not only absorb the ideas of our distinguished speakers and panelists but also contribute their own thoughts to the colorful, diverse discourse of opinions. By surrounding the workshop/panel core of CAIC with cultural and social events specific to Chinese Americans, we hope to create a rich CAIC experience where we can explore, discuss, and celebrate our common heritage, sharing it with the entire community.

CAIC2k3’s theme is: "Walk the Spectrum: Explore to Learn, Learn to Change." This theme highlights our committee’s commitment to form a conference that will facilitate discovery and understanding of the various views and identities of Chinese Americans. We literally hope to “walk the spectrum” of Chinese Americans, seeing who this vague term encompasses and examining what makes us different and similar at the same time. Through this process of learning and self-exploration, we hope to become more aware of the issues that face Chinese Americans in general and find possible solutions.
