The Columbia University Liondance Troupe, or CULT for short, was founded in 2000 to perform as the opening act at the Chinese Students Club 2001 Lunar Gala. Since then, the troupe has grown significantly, and has performed at many cultural events both on and off campus. Over the years, on-campus events have included CSC's Night Market, AAA's CultureShock, and the APAAM Infusion show on Low Steps. Off-campus shows have included corporate celebrations, not-for-profit events, and weddings. In 2003 and 2004, CULT competed in the first two East Coast Intercollegiate Lion Dance Competitons at Brandeis University, and also competed in the 1st Annual Chinatown Freemasons Lion Dance Competition in 2009.
