Opportunities at the Center
Co-sponsorship Guidelines
At CSER, we welcome and look forward to collaborating with other academic units in a wide range of activities, including conferences, lecture series, and workshops, among others.
As CSER receives a growing number of requests, we have devised a simple way to ask for our support.
To begin the process, please send us the following information:
- * one-page email communication detailing the nature of the request, the amount requested, and the proposed role CSER would have in the event.
- * budget of event or activity, noting other supporters and amounts.
Once received, CSER's director and executive committee will evaluate all proposals. Note that requests that arrive by or before the beginning of the Fall semester are more likely to be supported as CSER generally makes most of its commitments before that point.
Affiliate Faculty Member
Affiliate faculty are very important to CSER and the Center is always open to consider additional petitions.
An affiliate faculty is defined as a faculty member not on the core faculty who is committed to regularly teaching at CSER, raising funds for CSER, advising students, and/or participating in joint programs with CSER core faculty.
Columbia faculty members in all disciplines who have a research and teaching interest in the study of ethnicity and race are invited to request affiliate status.
The process to become an affiliate faculty member of CSER can be initiated by CSER's director or by an interested candidate. A candidate may petition affiliate status by sending the following materials:
- * an email communication detailing research and teaching interest in becoming a CSER affiliate;
- * current curriculum vitae; and
- * a syllabus of a proposed class, if applicable.
Affiliate status is for three years. The status may be extended through an invitation by CSER's director or by requesting an extension.
Affiliate faculty are generally not compensated by CSER.
An affiliate faculty member has voting privileges at regular CSER meetings.
Adjunct Teaching at CSER
On average, CSER's faculty includes seven adjunct professors per academic year. As CSER receives a growing number of requests to teach, we have devised a simple of way to submit a teaching proposal.
To begin the process, please send us the following information:
- * one-page email communication detailing the proposed course,
- * a syllabus of the proposed course, and
- * a curriculum vitae, and
- * a list of at least two references on scholarship/teaching.
Once received, CSER's director and executive committee will evaluate all proposals. Note that requests that arrive before the beginning of the Fall semester are more likely to be supported as CSER generally makes most of its commitments before that point.
