Spring Convention Introduction

LATE REGISTRATION CONTINUES THROUGH MARCH 21!

The CSPA invites high school students and faculty advisers to attend and participate in CSPA’s 84th annual Spring Scholastic Convention. This national gathering of student editors and faculty advisers to newspapers, yearbooks, magazines, video productions, and online media will be held at Columbia University from Wednesday, March 19 through Friday, March 21, 2008.

Delegates can choose from 350 or more sessions organized in seven sequences: newspaper, yearbook, magazine, online media, video/broadcasting, law and ethics and advisers. All seven sequences will run simultaneously throughout the three days of the Convention.

Throughout the Convention, our hourly schedule boasts a variety of special events, including Advisers Luncheons on Thursday and Friday. In addition, the Columbia Scholastic Press Advisers Association (CSPAA) will meet on Friday.

The winners of the Crown Awards for top publications will be presented at the Awards Convocation on Friday afternoon.

The Gold Circle Awards for top student individual awards will be available on Friday morning at the registration desk beginning at 9:45 a.m.

More than 500 newspapers, magazines and yearbooks that entered the CSPA’s 2007 competitions will be displayed at the 84th Scholastic Convention. The display will include recent high scoring publications. Delegates will be able to browse these displays on Wednesday and Thursday.

Deadline for early registration was February 18, 2008 at a fee of $90 per person. To qualify for the early registration fee, your registration form and all fees paid in full must have been postmarked by February 18, 2008.

We realize that February 18, 2008 was a postal holiday; forms postmarked by February 19th will be accepted at the early registration rate.

For all registrations postmarked after February 19th or made on-site at the Convention, the registration fee is $105 per person.

All registrants must first check-in at the Roone Arledege Auditorium, located inside the Alfred Lerner Hall Student Center, located at the corner of West 115h Street and Broadway in upper Manhattan. This is where pre-registered delegates will pick-up their materials and those registering on-site will register their delegates and pay their fees.

No purchase orders will be accepted for early registration fees. All purchase orders will be billed the late fee of $105 per person.

Advisers who plan to attend the Thursday and Friday Adviser Luncheons must register by February 18, 2008 to receive reduced fees. We suggest that schools pre-register and pay by February 18th for those students and advisers they are certain are attending.

If students or advisers wish to register additional persons as part of an existing school delegation, they may do so after February 18th at the late fee.
