Summer Journalism Workshop

Registration: Details and tips

Your week’s schedule

The first general session is on Sunday, June 22nd at 5:00 p.m. The workshop concludes on Friday, June 27th at 12:30 p.m..

Students must register for one of 13 sequences in either newspaper or yearbook offered at the workshop. Advisers will be given a complete schedule of classes the first night. Only advisers will be free to design their own programs, selecting class sessions from one or more sequences, although they are encouraged to stay with one sequence to preserve continuity. Advisers will not be allowed to take part in either of the design sequences unless they have preregistered for the class. Advisers must register for one class on the registration form.

Dorm room arrangements

Participants will stay in Carman Hall, a Columbia University undergraduate dormitory. The rooms are arranged by suites of two rooms, each serving as a double, connected to a shared bathroom. There must be one chaperone for 10-20 students in each delegation. Two chaperones must accompany groups of 21 or more students. The chaperone must be an adviser or adult who will be accountable for the group’s behavior.

CSPA will make reasonable attempts to arrange for their stay in a single room in Carman. Chaperones accompanying students may not be commuters. Chaperones may not take any participants out of the building after 11:00 p.m. CSPA staff members will be staying in the dorm to supervise and assist workshop participants. Curfew is at 11:00 p.m. and is strictly enforced.
