Students at the the 2009 Fall Conference.

There were 1,689 students and advisers who attended this year's Fall Conference at Columbia University. They represented 111 schools/organizations from 16 states.

2010 Crown Print Finalists Chosen

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association has posted the list of finalists for its Crown Awards program for scholastic (middle, junior and senior high school) and collegiate publications at its official website.

A total of 1,558 newspapers, magazines and yearbooks published during the 2008-2009 academic year were eligible in the 2010 Crown Awards program.

Since the CSPA dates its awards by the year in which they are given, this announcement concerns the 2010 Crown Awards.

The grand total of 157 Crowns consists of 37 magazines, 64 newspapers and 56 yearbooks. Of these, 124 Crowns will be given to scholastic publications and 33 Crowns to collegiate publications.

Crown Award finalists are guaranteed to receive either a Gold or Silver Crown Award in March 2010. No further judging will take place.

Scholastic and Collegiate Crown Awards are presented at separate ceremonies on two different days in March, 2010.

2010 Online Crown Awards

CSPA announced that the 2010 Crown Awards will include Gold and Silver Crowns for both online news and magazine sites!

Current CSPA members who publish online companions to their print publications now have the opportunity to submit their material for consideration. Non-members can join as Associate Members by December 10, 2009 and then submit their news/magazine sites for Crown consideration.

For this set of online news & magazine Crowns, only material published electronically between January 1, 2009 and December 10, 2009 will be considered.

Crown Awards to be chosen December 19-21

Crown Awards for top student newspapers, magazines and yearbooks will be chosen during by the Crown Board of Judges meeting at Columbia University from December 19-21, 2009.

As a result of this judging, Crown Finalists will be posted on this website shortly thereafter. All Finalists will receive either a Gold or Silver Crown, to be revealed at the awards ceremony. Staffs that are named Finalists will receive written notification after judging ends.

Awards for middle and high schools will be given at the CSPA's 86th Annual Convention in New York City on March 19 at Columbia University. College recipients will receive their awards on March 14 at the College Media Convention, also in New York City.

CSPA's Annual Scholastic Convention

 

The CSPA invites high school students and faculty advisers to attend and celebrate CSPA’s 86th Annual Convention. This national gathering of student editors and faculty advisers to newspapers, yearbooks, magazines, video productions, and online media will be held at Columbia University from Wednesday, March 17 through Friday, March 19, 2009.

Delegates can choose from more than 350 sessions organized in seven sequences: newspaper, yearbook, magazine, online media, video/broadcasting, law and ethics and advisers. All seven sequences will run simultaneously throughout the three days of the convention.

Throughout the Convention, our hourly schedule boasts a variety of special events, including Advisers’ Lunch on Thursday and Award Luncheon on Friday. In addition, the Columbia Scholastic Press Advisers Association (CSPAA) will meet on Friday.

The winners of the Crown Awards for top publications and the Gold Circle Awards for top student individual awards will be announced and presented at the Awards Convocation on Friday afternoon.
