HIKING
Experience nature and outdoor adventure in the greater New York area. This course
will introduce the student to entry level hiking. Topics covered include map reading
(not orienteering), proper clothing equipment, nutrition, and safety. The initial
meeting will be Saturday, January 28 from 1-2 p.m. in the Lou Gehrig Lounge.
The hikes will be held on four Saturdays with the group leaving campus at 8 a.m.
and returning by 5 p.m. Transportation is provided. The level of hiking will
range from easy to moderate. Minimal equipment is necessary. Trips are planned
to Harriman State Park/Bear Mountain, East of the Hudson, the Delaware Water Gap,
and Shawangunk Mountains (The Gunks). The course fee is $125.
