OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF THE CU MAILMAIN SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH'S BLACK AND LATINO STUDENT CAUCUS

February 2004

To Whom It May Concern:

As the executive board of the CU Mailman's School of Public Health's Black and Latino Student Caucus (BLSC), we are extending our support in light of the events on the downtown campus. We are actively working to obtain the support of other student groups on this campus.

We were referred to you by Dr. Samuel Roberts as he stated that you were the organizers of the protests, demonstrations, etc.

Many members of the executive board have faced similar issues and challenges at our undergraduate universities. We believe that we all should not only take a reactionary stance, but rather move towards more long-term sustainable changes.

We are trying to organize an event on the Health Sciences campus to address both the downtown and uptown issues at some point next week during the evening. We would like to invite you and other students to attend and speak about what is going on with the students on downtown campus.

In addition, as graduate students, we feel that we can offer additional support. We know that there are a few of you and that you all are tired. With this being said, we would like to extend our physical, emotional, etc. support. Please let us know what we can do to help. We are more than willing.

While these incidents have been overt, this should also spark dialogue regarding the many covert ways in which we are silenced on a day-to-day basis.

Please respond to us as soon as possible so that we can begin working with you all.

In solidarity,
BLSC
