OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF THE COLUMBIA AND BARNARD HILLEL

February 25, 2004

The Columbia/Barnard Hillel stands in solidarity with those student groups currently engaged in the silent protest on campus against hatred, intolerence, ignorance, and bigotry of any kind.

The Columbia/Barnard Hillel is rooted in the fundamental Jewish ideals of justice and equality. We believe that racism, bigotry, and hatred, in all of their forms, are antithetical to the Jewish and American traditions and to the common decency of humanity.

We encourage everyone to join in the silent protests this week from 12-2 PM daily on the Low Library steps, and to join with protesters in wearing black as a show of solidarity with our common cause.
