With support from the MacArthur Foundation, this research examines the transformation of public housing developments from the perspective of both the tenants being relocated to the private market and those persons and organizations that are assisting their resettlement. The research seeks to understand the experiences of households many of whom have little experience in the private housing market who are leaving the city’s most distressed public housing developments. The goal is to identify those factors that influence the adjustment of public housing tenants to the private market and that affect the host community’s capacity to cope with the influx of new families.
