The Columbia University Parliamentary Debate Team engages in a plethora of events both on and off campus.

Columbia Tournaments

Columbia hosts three tournaments on our campus here in the heart of New York City. Please consult the individual web pages of each tournament for more information.

APDA Novice Tournament @ Columbia University (September 13-14, 2002)
Columbia University Intercollegiate Parliamentary Debate Tournament(October 25-26, 2002)
Columbia University National High School Speech/Debate Invitational (January 31 - February 1, 2003)

Weekly Activities & Tournaments

Every Tuesday at 8:00 PM, the Columbia Parliamentary Debate Team holds a meeting in Lerner W501. All new and current Columbia University students, in any of its affiliated schools, are welcome to participate on the team.

Columbia University sends teams to Parliamentary Debate tournaments throughout the world every weekend. We compete on the American Parliamentary Debate Association (APDA) circuit in addition to sending teams to the North American and World Debating Championships. Although the team competes every weekend, each individual on the team is not required to attend each tournament. However, in order to maintain good standing membership on the team, you must attend two tournaments per semester.

Other Events

The Columbia Team is also active in numerous special events on campus. During the 1999-2000 school year, we staged our first annual student/faculty debates. We also volunteer at the Double Discovery Center, helping high school students perfect their speaking skills.
