IMPORTANT CHANGE IN REGISTRATION POLICY: PLEASE READ

This year, due to the potential entry levels at this tournament, we have decided to institute a preliminary cap on the number of Lincoln-Douglas Debaters each school can bring. We will be guaranteeing only 15 slots in L-D per school (in both divisions combined). Hopefully, this cap will be unnecessary and schools will be able to bring as many students as they wish. However, in an effort to ensure that no school is left out and that the tournament does not exceed its space capacity, we have been forced to limit guaranteed L-D entries per school.

This change will affect registration procedure as follows: The first phase of online registration should open shortly before Christmas and proceed until 9 PM on Thursday, January 6, 2005. Schools will be asked to register every interested student at this point, even though only 15 LD Debaters will be guaranteed spots. Within 24 hours of this deadline (meaning before 9 PM on January 7, 2005), schools will be notified how many of their entries have been accepted into the tournament. Again, please register ALL interested students before this first deadline.

Any entries received after 9:01 PM on January 6, 2004, will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis at the Tournament Director’s discretion until 9 PM on Monday, January 17, 2005. Any entries received after 9:01 PM on Monday, January 17, 2005 will also be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. However, after January 17, 2005, these entries will be subject to add fees and are at the discretion of the Tournament Director.

Sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

I look forward to seeing you all in January!

Sincerely,
Subash Iyer
Tournament Director

Dear Coaches & Contestants,

It is with great pleasure that the Columbia University Parliamentary Debate Team cordially invites you to attend the Columbia National High School Forensics Invitational. The tournament will take place from January 21st to January 23rd, 2005 on our beautiful Morningside Heights campus in the City of New York.

As always, our tab room will be staffed by an experienced group of coaches and students. We are very pleased to announce that Professor Minh A. Luong, tab director for the Tournament of Champions, will be running debate tab. Chris Palmer, of Harvard University, and designer of the TABROOM Tournament software, will be in charge of IE tab.

This year, we will offer Varsity and JV Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Student Congress and the following Individual Events: CFL Competition in Duo Interpretation, Oratory, Extemporaneous Speaking, Oratorical Declamation, Dramatic Performance and Oral Interpretation. There will be three preliminary rounds of individual events, five in Lincoln-Douglas. We will host two three-hour preliminary sessions of Congress. Break rounds in each event will be determined by entry levels. Awards will be given to octafinalists and above in both JV and Varsity LD, the top ten speakers in JV and Varsity LD, semifinalists and above in Speech, and the top eight in Student Congress.

We hosted over fifty schools from eleven different states. We hope this year's tournament will be an even more competitive, exciting, and enjoyable experience. Thank you for your interest. We look forward to meeting you in January.
