a) Social Entrepreneur Panel


Where: Davis Auditorium, Schapiro

When: 8pm

What: Entrepreneurs with a Mission 

Interested in international development. activism, sustainability, and entrepreneurship, but unsure about how to go forth and create a meaningful impact? 

Come learn about social entrepreneurship from experts and experienced professionals! Ask these entrepreneurs about the exciting work they do, the paths that lead them to careers in social enterprise, and opportunities in this rapidly growing field.

The panel, organised by CORE and the Growth and Development Project (DeltaGDP), consists of leaders such as: Laura Zax, Head of Social Innovation at Harry's (who previously worked at Ashoka, a shaving company with socially responsible goals); Rachna Govani, who works with Purpose, social impact management consulting, and Carolina Cantor, co-founder of Ethica, an online retailer of ethical and sustainable labels.

The conversation will be moderated by Professor John Walker from the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), who is highly experienced in the social entrepreneurship sector, and was the Director of Finance at Echoing Green, a global non-profit.

b) 180 Degrees Consulting

Just a quick reminder that last semester was the inaugural semester of Columbia's own 180 Degree Consulting Chapter!

180 Degrees Consulting is the world's largest student-driven consultancy, with branches in 18 countries and a current expansion into North America. There mission is:

"To strengthen the ability of socially conscious organizations to achieve high impact social outcomes through the development of innovative, practical and sustainable solutions."

Basically, 180DC connects teams of trained student consultants to socially conscious non-profits to complete and end-to-end consulting project in areas such as marketing, operational efficiency, branding and strategy, market research, and more.

III. Off-Campus Events

 

a) Apply to be an OECD Student Ambassador!

Where: Online


Deadline: March 30th

 

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is now accepting applications for their year-long student ambassadorship program. Student Ambassadors will engage with the OECD, and plan activities to raise awareness of the Organization and its work on their campuses. 

The time commitment will include: an initial training weekend in Washington, DC on May 31st and June 1st 2014, and work should not exceed 40 hours per semester. Based on their performance, two outstanding Student Ambassadors will be invited to visit OECD headquarters in Paris, France in May 2015. Expenses for both of these trips plus a budget related to promotional activities on campus will be paid for by the OECD. All Student Ambassadors who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of participation and a letter of recommendation.
