Lecturer Position

Columbia University invites applications for a Lecturer in Discipline position in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Biology (E3B).  The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in the environmental sciences with a special emphasis in conservation biology and geo-spatial statistics and computational methods.  She/he will be expected to teach 2.5 courses consisting of a team-taught, core graduate course in conservation biology, a course in the candidate’s area of expertise, preferably with, but not limited to, an emphasis on Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and a 0.5  graduate student research seminar.  The candidate will also be the director of our Masters program which has three tracks – academic, professional or environmental education. The successful candidate is also expected to maintain an independent, externally funded research program in an area of his/her specialty.  This is a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment, initially for one year with the possibility of continuing multi-year term appointments thereafter.   A Ph.D., a track record in conservation biology research, and experience in directing a Masters Program in the environmental sciences is required. Experience with research at the CERC Consortium, with which we have close collaborations and ties, is desired.  In addition, experience with international teaching and advising or experience teaching abroad is preferred. Appointment to begin July 2008.
