INSTRUCTOR CONTACTS (KENYA):
In Kenya, Dustin can be reached by email (dr2497@columbia.edu), although at times several days will pass between opportunities for us to check these accounts. He will also have a cell phone with him, but since the SIM cards expire between trips to Kenya, he will need to get a new number when we arrive in May a few days before the students arrive. He will disseminate the new cell number via email as soon as he has them.
NON-EMERGENCY STUDENT CONTACTS (KENYA):
It is important for everybody at home (parents, friends, etc.) to realize that this course is held in a remote location and that students on the course will not be readily contactable while they are in Kenya. Students will NOT have email access at Mpala and the field camp sites have no electricity, much less telephones. Before going to Kenya, we will gather email addresses from the students and generate a pre-arranged list so that we can relay basic information about the group (such as letting you know that everybody arrived safely). If any emergencies do arise on our side, then we will contact parents (or other emergency contacts) immediately. We will contact parents in any situation that requires professional medical treatment, but not in cases of mild illness.
Please reserve use of the emergency contacts listed below for true emergencies.
