INTRODUCTION OF CCLC

The Center of Chinese Language and Culture Studies (Mandarin Training Center) was established in the fall of 1956 as an extension of National Taiwan Normal University. Since that time, it has grown to become the largest and best known institution in the Republic of China dedicated to the teaching of Chinese as a second language. All levels of standard and classical Chinese, as well as Chinese culture are taught.

The CCLC is located between the 5th and 10th floors of The Bo-Ai Building on the main campus of the NTNU. It has modern air-conditioned classrooms and a library with an extensive collection of books and periodicals.

It has heavy showers during the summer, so bring necessary rainwear too. However, everything you need can be purchased locally if you plan to bring extra money. DO NOT OVER PACK!

GUIDE BOOK
All students are advised to buy a guide book of Taiwan before departure. Most students find that the guide published by Lonely Planet extremely useful for their stay in Taiwan.

UPON ARRIVAL IN TAIPEI

  1. Change US$200 at Chiang Kai-shek International Airport because you'll need some NT dollars during the first few days after you arrive in Taipei.
  2. You can choose between a cab or a bus from the airport to get to Taipei city. The cost for riding a cab from the airport to the city is about NT$1,000 (about US$30). However, the price may have changed, inquire about the price when you get there. It is not necessary to tip the taxi driver. As for the bus, it may cost NT$120 (about US$3-4). If you want to take either the cab or the bus, go to the waiting area outside the DEPARTURE AREA where you will see cabs with a sign on the window saying " TO/FROM CHIANG KAI SHEK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT."  The bus stop is close to the bus ticketing booth. Take the bus which goes to Taipei Train Station (Tai2 bei3 huo3 che1 zhan4).

Good luck and have a pleasant trip to Taipei!
