Traumatology 1001 fulfills the educational requirements for certification as Field Traumatologist with the International Traumatology Institute. By earning the Field Traumatologist Certification you demonstrate your skills, knowledge and expertise in trauma related topics for a wide variety of populations.

Those who earn the designation of Field Traumatologist will be able to:
*     Provide defusing services in a critical incident context, including skills to assess, stabilize and refer.
*     Provide trauma stabilization services to victims and their families.
*     Provide individual and group debriefing.
*     Assist with loss and mourning.
*     Conduct an initial trauma assessment.
*     Provide appropriate services in each of the Four Waves of Intervention.
*     Utilize the FEMA- funded Crisis Counseling Program.
*     Describe and utilize critical incident management models.
*     Develop compassion fatigue and burnout prevention and resiliency skills.
*     Implement prevention and self care strategies
*     Symptoms of PTSD both simple & complex, and associated features.

      Traumatology 1001 and the Field Traumatologist designation will benefit first responders (fire/rescue, emergency medical services, law enforcement), emergency managers, and clergy, as well as mental health and health care professionals.

      This course covers the knowledge and skills needed to respond to the emotional trauma associated with natural or human caused disasters or crises.  Topics include steps to lessen the potential negative impact of such crises and how to arrange for additional resources to help prevent/ reslove possible long-term stress/trauma.  The needs of special populations, including children, will be covered.  In addition, compassion fatigue risk factors, symptoms and prevention/self care strategies will be described.
