Chris Mueller, Music Director

Chris Mueller

Chris Mueller, native of Nashville, TN, has been masquerading (albeit ineffectively) as a New Yorker since 1996, when he moved to New York City in hopes of artistic adventure. This he has found, working as a musician in almost every conceivable venue. He transcribed, accompanied, music-directed, and/or conducted various incarnations of the off-Broadway musical Creature. His jazz CD, What Survives?, which reinterprets selections from the Creature score, is due out any day now.

His work as a dance accompanist has taken him from Carnegie Hall to Alvin Ailey, to adjunct professorships at New York University and Hunter College. As a choral singer, he has sung in Carnegie Hall and at Tanglewood and worked regular gigs for various Lutheran and Episcopal churches. His vocal jazz arrangements are published through the University of Northern Colorado Jazz Press.

As a pianist, he has worked as an opera accompanist, a jazz pianist occasionally gigging in Manhattan, and a coach to Broadway and jazz singers. He is regularly hired as a music copyist, utilizing the lovely "Finale" software package. His current work includes directing the Choir & Schola at the Church of Notre Dame, for which he composes weekly psalm settings and chant arrangements, and running the student choir at the CCM masses at St. Paul's Chapel on Sunday afternoons. All in all, a good life.
