Weddings, Receptions, and Other Special Events: Planning your wedding at St. Paul's Chapel

Initial Arrangements

You can call the Administrative Office at (212) 854-1487 to reserve a time and date for your wedding. The availability of officiants and reception facilities should be checked concurrently when finalizing the wedding date and time, since St. Paul's Chapel books a large number of weddings every year, with April, May, June, September, October, and November being the busiest times of the year.

Wedding Officiant

The Office of the University Chaplain at Columbia University is a great place to call if you are looking for an officiant for an interfaith, non-denominational or spiritually based wedding ceremony or same sex commitment service. Chaplain Davis and members of Columbia's United Campus Ministries conduct services not only in the historic and beautiful St. Paul's Chapel on the Columbia University campus but have been known to travel to parks, restaurants and private homes around the city and in the tristate area. Most recently Chaplain Davis traveled to Yellowstone National Park to conduct a wedding designed by a couple that incorporated the natural elements of this setting. For more wedding officiant information, please call (212) 854-1474.

Music

St. Paul's Chapel has a wonderful organ and a beautiful concert piano that may be used for weddings. The Administrative Office in St. Paul's Chapel will help provide you an organist to play the organ at your wedding. The staff can also provide recommendations for other musicians. Please note that only St. Paul's Chapel approved organists will be allowed to play the organ.

Invitations

Your invitations should indicate the following address:

St. Paul's Chapel
Columbia University
Amsterdam Avenue at 117th Street
New York, NY 10027

Enter through main campus gates at 116th Street and Broadway. There is a campus map on the north side of the 116th Street entrance.

Photography

Photography and videotaping are permitted in the chapel; however, you should discuss with the officiant when pictures may be taken.

Parking

Due to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, only cars with disability license plates or permits where previous arrangements have been made will be allowed to park on College Walk. However, up to two cars transporting the wedding couple and immediate family members or guest will be allowed to drop off passengers on College Walk. Afterward, vehicles must find parking off campus. Please call the Administrative Office (212-854-1487) for information on local parking garages.

Ushers

Ushers for your wedding should not arrive earlier than 30 minutes before the hour given on the invitations. Your ushers are responsible for directing guests to their seats at the appropriate time. If guests arrive while an earlier wedding is still taking place, ushers should check with the building manager, who will assign an available waiting area. The ushers should also make sure that everything is removed from the chapel at the end of the wedding, including all bags, cameras, brochures, and flowers. Anything left behind in the chapel may be discarded.
