Computing Resources
The Department of Economics houses its own computing cluster to serve
the needs of faculty and graduate students.
The Economics Computing Cluster is a Linux-based system. In brief,
the cluster consists of one Sun Fire V40z server, eight Sun Fire V20z
servers, and one Penguin Computing Altus 600 server, all running
Scientific Linux 4.7 x86_64. Each of the V20z servers has two AMD
Opteron 250 CPUs; four of the servers have 8G of RAM and the other four
have 4G of RAM. The V40z server has four AMD Opteron 850 CPUs and 32G of
RAM. The Altus 600 server has two dual-core AMD Opteron 2218 CPUs and
16G of RAM.
The cluster includes approximately 7T of RAID storage, spread amongst
one IBM and one HP file server (both running Scientific Linux 5.x i386),
and a Sun StorEdge 3511 FC Array.
Statistical software available on the cluster includes
Mathematica,
Matlab,
SAS,
Stata/SE,
Stat/Transfer,
R,
and
RATS.
