Who We Are
The Ethical Humanist Chaplaincy at Columbia University is an Ethical
Culture Campus Ministry. We are a humanistic religion inspired by the
ideal that the supreme aim of human life is working to create a more
humane society. Our faith is in the capacity and responsibility of
human beings to act in their personal relationships and in the larger
community to help create a better world. Our committment is to the
worth and dignity of the individual, and to treating each human being
as a sacred, irreplaceble uterance of the universe. We form communities
to assist each other in developing ethical ideals, to celebrate life's
joys and to support each other through life's crises.
Our Campus Chaplaincy is open to all members of the Columbia-Barnard
Community: Students, Faculty and Staff. We are here to serve the needs
of Humanists and Ethical Culturists. We are also available to all who
wish to explore Humanist life.
The Ethical Humanist Chaplaincy is sponsored by the New York Society
for Ethical Culture.
