SAMPLE MAJORS |
 |
The following letters are used to designate which requirements are met
by the courses listed in the Sample Majors below. A single course
usually will fulfill more than one requirement; occasionally, as with
writing workshops, a course will not satisfy any distribution
requirements, though it still counts as one of the ten courses for the
major.

the courses in poetry, the Shakespeare lecture for drama, and the
Melville course for fiction. There are a number of courses in British
literature, one in American (Melville), and one in comparative
(Symbolist Tradition). Also notice that Critical Reading, Critical

the three courses on fiction (History of the Novel, Joyce lecture and

(Harlem Renaissance), and two in comparative. Also notice that Dada
& Surrealism and The Age of Proust are both literature courses
taught in French and count as 2 of the 10 courses for the major, but
neither may be used to satisfy any distribution requirements.

that genre requirement. There are 3 courses in British literature, 1 in
American, and 4 in comparative. Critical Reading/Writing and the
Spanish course in 17th-century Theatre both count toward the major but
satisfy no distribution requirements.
