This site is a work-in-progress. As such, your patience is appreciated and your comments and
suggestions are welcome.

The Columbia Journal of European Law (CJEL) is published under the auspices of the Columbia

University School of Law and the Parker School of Foreign and Comparative Law, in
cooperation with the Institute for Eurpoean Law of the Katholieke Universiteit in Leuven,
Belgium. It is intended primarily to respond to the growth of interest in European law among
Americans.

While giving priority to the analysis of legal documents at the European Community and

European Union level, the CJEL actively encourages contributions exploring any dimension of
European law, including those at the national or regional levels, as well as those relevant to
broader questions of the development of law and legal insitutions in Europe as a whole. We
further seek to present articles - whether authored by Americans, Europeans or scholars from
other parts of the world - that bring special comparative, historical and political perspectives
to bear on the issues under discussion.

The CJEL staff is open to all second and third-year J.D. candidates, although preference will

be given to students with demonstrated interest, prior training or experience in European
affairs. Staff members are strongly encouraged to take the basic EU Law course during their
second year.
