Do YOU want to join our Team?

If you are a fencer who is interested in joining our team, you will find information on becoming a student at Barnard College, Columbia College, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the School of General Studies in "Our Schools."

Click here to see our Team Handbook. It has a great deal of information about how the Columbia Fencing Team operates.

Please go to the Recruit Information Page so that we can get in touch with you and also advise the admissions office of your interest. (Please be aware that the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Administration, the NCAA, prohibit us from contacting you by mail until you have started your Junior Year in High School and in person or by telephone until July 1 after you have finished your Junior Year. We are not even allowed to call you back if you leave a message on our answering machine prior to that July 1 date.)

There is also special information for all high school fencers who are interested in fencing in any college on The College-Bound Fencer page. This will give you some excellent tips on what to do as you search for your college. It lets you know what you should do, and what a college coach may and may not do.

Additional Information on Columbia Fencing

Fencing in New York - One of the great advantages for the Columbia fencer is being in New York City , the “Fencing Capital of the USA .” See our special page, Fencing in New York City, for more information. In addition to the excellent clubs in New York , Columbia University has been selected by the United States Fencing Association as a “National Training Center.” Many of the highest level fencers in the country from other schools and clubs are now found regularly training in Columbia 's Fencing Room along with Columbia 's top fencers. We are very pleased to have this opportunity to assist in the development of the best fencers in our country.

International Experiences - The fencers and coaches at Columbia frequently represent the United States of America and the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime in international competition. (Yes, it is possible to both do well academically and fence at the highest level!) The number of current students and alumni from the Columbia Fencing Team on the USA National Team to the World Championships is almost always greater than fencers from any other team. We are very proud to have established the Herbert C. Spiselman Memorial Endowment for Fencing. A special bronze plaque, dedicated in 2002, commemorates this fine man whose memory will live on forever in the wonderful assistance provided to Columbia Fencing. Specifically, this endowment will be used to provide grants for our best fencers to compete in World Cups and World Championships. Details are available on the Spiselman Grant web page.
