Undergraduate Programs
The Department of French and Romance Philology is pleased to offer its undergraduate students a wide array of courses and several major options. Use the menu at left to learn more.
Students can choose from a large menu of courses ranging from elementary French language to advanced literature or cultural studies. Approximately 800 undergraduate students take French language or literature at Columbia each semester.
The Department offers two undergraduate majors: one in French literature, the other in French and Francophone Studies. Click on the links at left to learn more. The director of the French language program is Pascale Hubert-Leibler (PhD, Sorbonne Nouvelle) and the director of undergraduate studies is Madeleine Dobie (PhD, Yale).
In addition to the majors offered by the Department of French and Romance Philology via Columbia College, prospective students may wish to explore undergraduate studies at Barnard.
