Resources for Undergraduate Students

Approximately 800 undergraduate students take French language or literature at Columbia each semester. Due to the popularity of French language courses, the Department offers several sections at each level, and classes are limited to twenty students in order to ensure the best possible learning environment.

Teaching is a top priority for our Faculty. Our Teaching Fellows undergo training in pedagogy and have been selected from among the best graduate students in the country and abroad for their outstanding level of achievement. They all have extensive knowledge of French language and culture.

Office Hours for Teaching Fellows and Professors can be found in the department section and meeting with your Instructor is the best first step to getting help outside the classroom. The Director of the French Language Program is Pascale Hubert-Leibler.

In addition to in-class resources and one-on-one help during office hours, undergraduate students have access to many online resources, and several student organizations.
