Columbia Students Ride for AIDS Cause

Every morning Susanna Daniel, CC '97 and Jason Klein, CC '97 ride more than fifteen miles through Manhattan and Brooklyn before class. And recently, confined to the gym due to cold weather, they have continued to prepare diligently for one of the most challenging events of their lives. On June 2, they will travel to San Francisco where, along with 2,000 people from all over the nation, they will ride approximately 80 miles a day for seven days. The event is the California AIDS Ride.

But training and conditioning is only part of the hard work Daniel and Klein face six months before the Ride. Each must raise $2500 in pledges before May, or they will be unable to participate. Daniel and Klein have solicited pledges from friends (many of whom are students on low budgets) and family.

The California AIDS Ride is a bicycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles which has raised more than 5.5 million dollars each year for the past two years. This year, the third annual Ride (June 2 - 8) promises to be the most successful yet. All proceeds go to direct services for HIV patients and prevention through San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

If you are interested in supporting either Daniel or Klein in their endeavor, or in learning more about the Ride in general, please leave your address at x37489 or x35743 and a pledge form will be sent to you, or email sld11@columbia.edu or jgk10@columbia.edu.
