Community Meeting a Success

Approximately 70 to 80 persons attended Columbia's third annual lesbian, bisexual, and gay (lbg) community meeting on Thursday, February 15. Ray Smith, a graduate student in the School of International and Public Affairs, and principal organizer of the event, opened the meeting with a brief summary of the history of the lbg community meetings. The meeting served as a vehicle for several lbg and other campus-groups to introduce themselves to the larger community. Representing these campus-groups were:
Wayne Steward of GHAP (Gay Health Advocacy Project)
Lisa Dunn of QIPASA (Queers in International and Public Affairs Student Association)
Karl Ufert of GABLES (Gay, Bisexual, Lesbian Employees and Supporters)
Frank Susa of LBGTC (Lesbian, Bisexual, and Gays at Teachers College)
Carolyn Lovejoy of LBGC (Lesbian Bisexual Gay Coalition)
Maggie Sale of the Institute for Research on Women and Gender
Jason Klein of Gayava — the Group for Columbia's Jewish Queers
John Weinstein of the Lesbian Gay Studies Group
Tawnee Walling of Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Caucus at Union Theological Seminary

A social followed the meeting, with pizza and sodas sponsored by QIPASA. The community meeting and social was held in the Graduate Student Lounge, the use of which was sponsored by Ken Harlin, and with facilities services sponsored by Trevor Dawes and Robert Bromfield.
