Program Development and Initiatives

The Program Development and Initiatives unit is responsible for coordinating strategic planning, communications, and program development for GCA with a focus on law, arts and culture.  The staff executes community outreach plans, develops partnerships and joint programming with University departments and schools, local public and private schools, and with the arts and cultural communities and organizations of upper Manhattan . They also coordinate partnerships with the Law School and community law offices.  Programs managed by the division include an art exhibition program for local artists, The New York Times Great Children’s Read that is sponsored by Target and brings thousands of visitors to campus each fall, The National Endowment for the Arts’ The Big Read program that brings a great work of literature to local neighborhoods through a month-long series of events, and Shall We Dance, a summer series held on campus that brings world dance instruction and film to the local community.

The division also manages a portion of Columbia’s Neighbors website (http://www.neighbors.columbia.edu/), which promotes the various community services offered by the University and its community partners in the areas of education, health care, arts and recreation, and offers a community calendar featuring events on and off campus that are open to the public and offered by the University and community partners.
