University Relations

University Relations manages interaction between GCA and other segments of the University community, as well as providing an access point to the resources of the University for local community groups, citizens, and governmental entities.   Annual meetings with academic deans help GCA in its overall efforts to support their agendas for the year as they relate to government and community issues.  The staff works with the Center for Career Education to manage Congressional internships as well as internship opportunities for local not-for-profit organizations.  University Relations has been working with the Provost’s Office to convene the Provost’s Student Advisory Committee on Campus Planning, up to now focused primarily on Manhattanville.

In its role as a portal to the University for Columbia’s surrounding community, University Relations produces a newsletter highlighting University programs and events of general interest, maintains and provides information on programs at the University and elsewhere available to the public, and, working with the Provost’s Office, acts as a liaison between community organizations and sources of technical assistance available through University programs and departments.  Through Columbia Community Service and University Relations staff, the office is also able to provide advice and guidance on fundraising and organizational development.  Columbia Community Service, managed by GCA, is the University’s “ United Way,” raising close to $300,000 per year from Columbia faculty, administration and staff in order to award small grants to local not-for-profits.
