Mission Statement

To provide provide members of the Columbia University community the chance to study Goju-Ryu Karate:

1. The club will offer experienced and inexperienced members, Goju and non-Goju stylists a chance to study the martial art of Goju-Ryu in a traditional manner.

2. Members will be taught the basics of karate and self-defense, as well as katas (pre-arranged combat techniques used to teach combat principles).

3. The Goju-Ryu Karate Club will also serve as a forum for experienced martial artists, as well as beginners, to exchange techniques, ideas, and philosophy about Goju and the martial arts in general.

4. Classes and meetings will be conducted in a non-competitive and friendly exchange in the effort to engender a sense of comradery, dedication, and responsibility among the members.

5. The club will offer membership to any and all affiliated with Columbia regardless of race, gender, nationality, religion, or political/sexual orientation.
