Accommodations For Students Or Guests With Disabilities

Columbia provides accessible entrances and seating for students and guests with disabilities or special needs for both GS Class Day and Commencement. Services for guests with disabilities are coordinated through Columbia's Office of Disability Services (ODS). Please refer to the information below to help plan your visit, should a member of your party require any of the following services.

Available Accommodations

Special Seating
Wheelchair-accessible seating and special seating for guests with mobility impairments, the elderly, and people with hearing and visual disabilities is available. Reservations are not required. Upon arrival to campus, please enter at 116th and Broadway gate and proceed to South Field. Our ushers will be able to assist you to your seat. Please arrive by 4:15 to be seated.

Sign-language Interpreting
Sign-language interpreting will be available at Class Day in the designated disability seating area.

Wheelchairs
The Office of Disability Services will have a limited number of wheelchairs available for use during Class Day. There is no rental fee associated. Please contact ODS to make arrangements.

If you do have a wheelchair, please enter though the 116th and Broadway gate and proceed to South Lawn. Ramps are available for your use; please consult the campus accessibility map (.pdf).

Parking
There is no on-campus public parking. Drivers are advised to drop off and pick up passengers with disabilities at the 116th and Broadway gate.

Ceremonies

Class Day
Students must notify the GS Dean of Students Office by Monday, May 11, about any special needs for students or guests in wheelchairs, individuals who require special seating, or other accommodations.

Please use our online form to apprise of your concerns or needs, and we will let you know what special arrangements can be made.

Commencement
The Commencement Ceremony will be signed. More information on accommodations for the Commencement ceremony is available on the University Commencement website.
