Veteran Benefits If you or one of your family
members are in the military, you may obtain information regarding educational
opportunities, the GI Bill, and the Veteran Educational Assistance Program
by consulting the GI
Bill website, the education office at the nearest base, or the Department
of Veteran Affairs Regional Office, P.O. Box 4616, Buffalo,
NY 14140; (888) 442-4551.
For information on veteran benefits for New York State
residents, contact Nedra Gordon, Office of the Registrar,
210 Kent Hall, Columbia University, New York, NY 10027 or call
(212) 854-2515.
If you have never received any V.A. education benefits,
you must bring a copy of your DD214 form (photocopies are acceptable)
to the Office of the Registrar, 210 Kent Hall. The Office
of the Registrar will fill out V.A. 22-1999 form and send it to the Veterans
Benefit office.
Reserves or National Guard If you have never received any
V. A. education benefits, you must bring a copy of your Notice of Basic
Eligibility (NOBE) form (photocopies are acceptable) to the Office of
the Registrar, 210 Kent. The Office of the Registrar will fill
out V.A. form 22-1999 and send it to the Veterans Benefit office.
Dependent
of a Veteran If you already have a V.A. File Number and information
stating that you are eligible for benefits, you should bring all your
information to the Office of the Registrar, 210 Kent.
If you
have not already received a file number and eligibility information from
the Veteran's Administration, please contact the V.A. Regional Office
for information. Many of your questions may be answered by visiting
the VA website.
Returning From Duty
GS
Academic Resource Center - Provides a variety of support services
to GS students. In addition to individual tutoring in a variety of subject
areas, the ARC offers workshops designed to improve students' learning
strategies.
Health
Services - Provides integrated, accessible services and programs
that support the well-being of the campus community, and the personal
and academic development of students.
Counseling
and Psychological Services - Supports the psychological
and emotional well-being of the campus community by providing individual
counseling for students, couples counseling for students and their partners,
student life support groups, and medication consultations. Emergency
consultations are available to the entire university community. Alfred

Office
of Disability Services - Facilitates equal access for students
with disabilities by coordinating reasonable accommodations and support
services.

York State Division of Veteran Affairs - Provides benefits counseling
and advocacy for veterans.
Leaving for Duty Any student
who is a member of the National Guard or other reserve component of the
armed forces of the United States or of the state-organized militia and
is called or ordered to active duty will be granted a military leave
of absence for the period of active duty and for one year thereafter.
Upon return from military leave of absence, the student
will be restored to the educational status attained prior to being called
or ordered to such duty without loss of academic credits earned, scholarships
or grants awarded, or tuition or other fees paid prior to the commencement
of active duty. The University will credit any tuition or fees paid for
the period of the military leave of absence to the next enrollment period
or will refund the tuition and fees paid to the student, at the student's
option.
Students in need of a military leave of absence should
contact their advisor in the Dean of Students Office.
ROTC
Columbia participates in the Army and Air Force ROTC programs. Both the New York City Army and Air Force ROTC programs include students from schools throughout the New York City area. The New York City Army ROTC program is based at Fordham University. The New York City Air Force ROTC program is based at Manhattan College.
