Financing a Columbia Education
Tuition in the Columbia Postbaccalaureate
Premedical Program is costly. Additionally,
medical education is expensive, and to be eligible for
financial aid at most medical schools, students will
be required to have some financial support from their
parents regardless of the students’ age or family
status. The premedical program is similarly expensive.
Unlike medical school, however, parental contributions to the
expenses of financially independent students are not
expected in the Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program.
Financial independence is determined through the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Financial Aid
Financial aid is limited primarily
to student loans. Students in their first year of postbaccalaureate
premedical study are eligible for Federal Stafford Loans.
Students who need loans beyond their first year
are provided with information about private educational
loan sources. Columbia researches the many loan programs
available and will present the loan offering with the
best rates and terms for Columbia students. Students should carefully read their admissions packets for details about the student loan application process.
The School of General Studies FAFSA Code is E00487.
The School of General Studies also has a limited
scholarship program for postbaccalaureate premedical
students. Priority is given to students in their second
year.
To be eligible for financial aid, students must be enrolled
in at least 6 credits of course work per semester. For further information,
