Faculty Mentoring Awards
In May 2013, the Graduate Student Advisory Council (GSAC) will give out its tenth annual Faculty Mentoring Awards (FMAs), to be presented to two Columbia faculty members who exemplify the ideals of PhD mentoring. One FMA will honor a member of the Arts and Sciences faculty; the other will honor a faculty member teaching in a doctoral program offered by GSAS in cooperation with Columbia's professional schools.
We invite all GSAS students to nominate candidates for this special award. In less than 500 words, nominating letters should describe, as specifically as possible, how the candidate has supported the professional and personal development of PhD students. FMA recipients receive an honorarium and will be invited to address one of the GSAS PhD convocation ceremonies this coming May. They will also have plaques made in their honor, to be displayed in the graduate student lounge, 301 Philosophy Hall.
The FMA is a GSAC initiative, and the selection committee is made up entirely of GSAS students. All nominations should be sent to email@example.com. The deadline for submitting nominations is Tuesday, March 15th, 2013. Awardees will be announced at the end of April.
