Pueblo Ribera Under Construction 1930

Pueblo Ribera was designed by R. M. Schindler as a vacation settlement of 12 'typical' freestanding homes in Southern California. Each unit was built of reinforced concrete, wood and glass. Portions of the reinforced concrete formwork remained in place after pouring to serve as door and window frames. Although the concrete bearing wall and wood joist floor system proved very sturdy, the building envelope details were so poor that they leaked immediatly, forcing some would tenants to move out during the first rainstorm they experienced in the buildings.
