Jury notes on Lily Aguilar by Brian Mc Grath

Mark Robbins;- The idea of a vertical back lot is a great idea.

Marissa Oliver:- How do superheroes experince the city, they can fly, but they have contact with each other and the city, not just visual experience?

Irena Latek:- shows an ecological approach to the city; looks at what is there; a skillfull survey even if can't understand it all, liked it--identifies quality of the site and builds on to it. a skillfull survey even if can't understand it all, liked it--identifies quality of the site and builds on to it.

Joan Ockman:-yes, original work, buildings seen as machine for making filmic images, a production aparatus. engages audience particiaption through screens terraces etc like superheroes in comic strip. Could add other machines for making images, may be a vertical diaroma? Sure that this production lot would get great use.

Andrea Kahn:- City already functions movie lot.. negotiations to use harlem St described in NY Times, reprogramming the city, incorporating movie simulacra, seeing the city as a place of image production..linked to tourist site.

Mark Robbins:-Liked subway and elevator details using movement in city to produce flash book illusions of movement from a series of fixed images. Would there be fixed sets in the towers??the towers functioned as hybrid artifices, both tower and viewing positions.

Michael Manfredi:- hybrid also as not only sets for tourists but also production spaces, the staircase shot, the machine shot, water shot etc..

Irena Latek:-identifies the special character of the place precisely/ abstracted into a particualr moment.

Tony Schumman :- What about the other 40 floors, building more than just elevator, lobby etc?

Christine Boyer:- need to open up further, from building as a back lot to whole city as a back lot, open up on different scenes of the city..not just one city.

Mike Manfredi:- innovative use of computer

Mike Webb:- If buildings were to be changed as backlots would be a lot of changes, not just straight office buildings any more, structural changes for film equipment, the circulation would have to be revamped.....
