Morningside Heights: TRANSISTOR SPACE

analisys-microchip as a city

Morningside Heights is an area dominated by Columbia University. The institution works in a different way at two levels:

physically, as a big box working at local scale,
virtually, as a network, multilevel of communication working at local, regional and global scale.

The existing relation between the campus and the community has been analyzed in terms of

complexity
grid format
multiplicity of operations

strategy=logic+individual character

The proposal expansion for the University is focus on the transistor space between the artificial university platform and the natural topography of the hill. To develop this space I break the surrounding wall of the campus to make it accessible from the level of the street. I also propose to change the actual tunnel system of the University by reversing its character: negative to positive.

probe-mesh in movement

A mesh surface going over and under the platform, links physically the two orlds: inside and outside the campus. New activities enjoyable by both the community and the campus are created in between.
