Housing at the University
Columbia University owns and directly manages approximately 5,700
residential units in 143 buildings in the immediate vicinity of the
Morningside Heights campus, and about 600 units in the vicinity of
Washington Heights (Health Sciences Campus). Some of these units are
available to graduate students. Students interested in University-owned

The Off-Campus Housing Assistance (OCHA) is a free, student
operated service which lists non-Columbia owned furnished and
unfurnished rooms and apartments for both lease and sublet (both short-
and long-term occupancy) in all areas of New York City, and the
metropolitan area. The services of this office are for the sole use of
students, faculty, and staff of the schools of Columbia University,
both Morningside and Health Sciences campuses. Students seeking
off-campus housing may consult the office or its web page. You may
visit the Registry during office hours by presenting with your valid
Columbia, Barnard, or Teachers College ID card to the desk attendant.
Be advised that without a valid ID card or letter of acceptance into a
Columbia program of study, you will not be able to acquire the contact
information. The desk attendants will not be able to contact your
school for verification of your status. Anyone with access to the World
Wide Web may view the listings on-line, However, only authorized users
may obtain the contact information. The web-page also contains links to
other NYC apartment search sites and information about short-term
student housing in the Columbia neighborhood.
