Liberal Studies M.A. Program: East Asian Studies
Individual Program Of Study
The introductory course,
East Asian Studies G4000-Introduction to East Asian studies
, is given at least once per year and is required of all incoming students. This course focuses on four great ages-the classical age, the Buddhist age, the neo-Confucian age, and the modern age; critical periods in the histories of China, Japan, and Korea are emphasized. Those who enter in a term in which the course is not offered should consult the program adviser before registering for courses and should take the introductory course the next time it is offered.
The program requirements can be fulfilled in different ways, depending on the student's interests. Following are sample individualized programs completed by students. . These are examples of courses offered in past semesters. A different list of courses will be offered in future semesters, but future courses will tackle many of the themes represented here.
