The Associate Dean is responsible for the general welfare of GSAS students, advises the Graduate Student Advisory Council (GSAC), works with a variety of campus groups--including libraries and housing--to ensure quality of services for GSAS students. The associate dean is also responsible for international exchange programs and monitors the work required to establish new academic degree programs, orientation, graduation and convocation ceremonies, and the daily management of the Graduate Student Lounge and GSAS Resource Center in 301 Philosophy.

Graduate School Advisory Councilgsac@columbia.edu
This group is the sole university-wide student government for Ph.D. students and other students. One elected representative from each department serves as a voting member on the Council. GSAC's goal is to improve graduate student life at Columbia. This is accomplished by allocating the student activity fee, advising the GSAS Dean and other administrators, keeping GSAS students informed of community activities, planning student activities, and appointing students to various university wide positions.
Alumni Association Board

The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Alumni Board is a representative group of alumni that provides leadership to help support the programs and activities of GSAS. By volunteering their time and talents, board members maintain and strengthen the ties of all alumni to their alma mater. The Board gains a first-hand understanding of GSAS’s goals, programs, and key issues and shares its wisdom and experience in an advisory capacity. The Board does not engage in the administrative or management affairs of GSAS.
