Susan A. Ashley (’73 PhD) has been appointed dean of the college/dean
of the faculty of Colorado College. Dr. Ashley is the first woman to
hold this post in the college’s 130-year history.
Anna Campbell Brickhouse (’98 PhD) has been presented with
the annual Arit Award for outstanding work by a young humanities
scholar
by the Council of Graduate Studies.
Kevin J. Collins (’95 MA) A former member of the GSAS Alumni
Association Board of Directors, Mr. Collins has been elected vice
chairman of the
New Jersey Commission on Higher Education.
Lt. Colonel Kevin Farrell (’99 PhD), whose deployment to Iraq
was reported in the last newsletter, continues in command of a battalion
and has been sending some interesting news. Lt. Colonel Farrell and
his
men are nearing the end of their 10-month tour of duty.
Sonja Petra Karsen (’50 PhD) has been listed in the 2004-2005 edition
of Who’s Who of American Women for her extensive academic achievements.
Gerda Lerner (’66 PhD) and Paula Hyman (’75 PhD), through
the Jewish Women’s Archive, are working with Ruth Bader Ginsberg
on an initiative entitled “Jewish Women and the Feminist Revolution.” For

Elisa New (’88 PhD), a Harvard professor, has married Lawrence
H. Summers, the university president.
Donald Sosin (76, MA) has an active career performing internationally
on silent films. He also has an extensive background in musical theater
and now spends most of his time writing film music. For more information

Pierre L. Ullman (’52 MA) writes to tell us that he has been
asked by the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society of the Episcopal
Church
to perform the arduous task of reading and commenting on the manuscript
of the Spanish translation of The Lesser Feasts and Fasts.
Maurice Wohlgerlerntner (’46 MA; ’64 PhD), Professor
Emeritus of English at Baruch College and the author of six scholarly
books,
was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Yeshiva University in 2004.
Hope Herman Wurmfeld (’78 MA) has been awarded second prize
for her collage series, Dream Garage, in the Fine Arts Collage category
of the 2005 International Photography Awards, sponsored by the Lucie
Awards.
