Dafna V. Hochman
Department of Political Science
Your professors say that you have the intellect to be a major contributor to the study of international relations and politics. Your students expect you to be no less successful as a teacher. A class of 124 students of diverse backgrounds credit you with helping them navigate through demanding lecture topics and an unusually heavy reading list that includes the most complex works written on war and peace. You expertly led their discussions, involving everyone, fostering a civil environment on contentious subjects, connecting the worlds of theory and practice, inspiring critical and analytical reasoning, but never doing the hard work of thinking for your students. For many, their work with you brought coherence to the course and made it a rewarding experience. Today, we join them in praising your skills as an educator with the 2006 Presidential Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Graduate Student.
