Dear GSAS student,
Graduate education is both intellectually stimulating and more than a little challenging. The officers and staff of The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences are dedicated to providing the support that graduate students need to complete their degree programs in a timely and satisfying manner. With this end in mind, we have assembled this page, which contains links that will prove useful to you throughout your career at Columbia. A great deal of helpful information can be found at the Office of Student Affairs page: This office is the place to bring any questions or concerns you may have about life at Columbia; it also serves as an important resource for a variety of programs and services designed for GSAS students. You will find much useful information on the Financial Aid Office page, including a searchable database of fellowship opportunities. We have also included links to several important academic and career development pages, including the GSAS Bulletin, the Dissertation Office, and teaching resources.
Finally, you will find here a link to your Graduate Student Advisory Council (GSAC). GSAC is the elected student governing body for graduate students; all departments and committees with PhD programs have a representative on GSAC, as well as a few interdepartmental MA programs. GSAC has an important voice in academic and extra-academic affairs at Columbia. The group also organizes lively social events open to all graduate students, and it regularly co-sponsors events programmed by recognized graduate student groups. I urge you to check out their activities, and, if you're interested, to get involved.
