Where can I find answers to my questions about the courses and about a program’s content and requirements?

The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences Admissions Office does not provide information regarding a program’s prerequisite requirements. Please consult the departmental websites for that information. All program related questions not covered on this websites should be addressed directly to the department.

What is the difference between the MA Only and Free-standing MA programs.

The MA Only and Free-standing MA are the same program. We have recently changed the terminology. All programs leading to the MA Degree Only are now referred to as Free-standing MA programs.

May I apply to more than one program?

You may not apply to more than one program or department within the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) icluding the programs at the College of Physicians and Surgeons. You may apply to a program housed at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and to programs at other divisions of the University. However, since the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences does not share application materials with other divisions, applicants must complete the application requirements for each school.

How do I apply to a dual or joint degree program?

The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences refers to these programs as dual degree programs. Applicants must complete the application requirements for both schools. Application materials are not shared between schools. Students can only apply to an established dual degree program and may not create their own.

How do I become eligible for fellowship awards?

All applicants applying to a Ph.D. program are considered for Faculty Fellowships, which are awarded solely on the basis of merit. Fellowships are awarded by the departmental faculty admissions committees at the time admissions decisions are rendered.

What kinds of fellowships are available if I’m applying to an M.A. only program?

Unfortunately, at this time the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences cannot provide fellowships for students admitted to Free-standing program.

How can I obtain a Teaching or a Research apprenticeship?

Teaching and Research apprenticeships are solely part of the multi-year Ph.D. faculty fellowship awards.

If I submit my application online can I also send in a paper copy of my application?

No. If you submit an application online do not also submit a paper copy.

If I already have an ApplyYourself PIN number, either from a prior application to GSAS or from having used ApplyYourself to submit an application to another institution, should I use that number again?

Yes.

If I have forgotten my ApplyYourself PIN number and password should I create a new account with ApplyYourself?

No. Please use the SEARCH feature on the main page of the online application to look up your PIN and password. The creation of a second ApplyYourself account will delay the processing of your application.
