Housing
The University offers a variety of housing accommodations for
its graduate students, including dormitory rooms and apartments for both single
and married students. University housing is available on and around both the
Morningside and the Health Sciences Campuses. For more information, please write

International Students and Scholars Office
The International
Students and Scholars Office (ISSO), offers many services for international
students as well as American citizens and permanent residents who have received
their education in a foreign country. Services for international students
include pre-admission counseling, immigration-related and document services,
International Orientation, social and cultural activities, and a program for the
spouses of students. The ISSO also provides credential analysis services to the
admission offices of the University. The ISSO is open year-round, and
international students are urged to make use of its services during their stay
at the University. You are also invited to visit their website which
contains comprehensive information for both prospective and current students.
The staff of the International Students and Scholars Office is available
for personal advisement and for help in learning about the campus and New York
City. The ISSO is an essential source of information regarding immigration and
Department of State regulations that affect international students studying in
the United States. The staff can also assist with many other non-academic
matters. The ISSO provides information about the many cultural activities in the
New York area, and has reduced-rate tickets for plays, concerts and other
events.
Students are required to check in with the ISSO within a week of
their arrival at Columbia. The Office’s street address is 524 Riverside Drive in
International House North, just north of 122nd Street. The Orientation program
for new international students arriving for the September term takes place
during orientation week, usually either the last week in August or the first

Disability Services
The coordinator of the Office of Disability
Services acts as a liaison with schools and divisions at Columbia to ensure full
access to their programs of study and related activities. Students and
prospective students with long-term or temporary disabilities may contact the
coordinator at (212) 854-2388 for issues relating to counseling access
information, and educational accommodations.
Health and Related Services
Providing quality primary care and supporting health education are the
goals of the Columbia University Health Service. The breadth of services
available on both campuses is great, and includes general medical services, the
Center for Women’s Health, Counseling and Psychological Services and a Health
Education Office. Payment of the health fee entitles students to unlimited
access to the Health Service.
Dining Services
Columbia Dining
Services maintains various facilities on the Morningside and health Sciences
campuses operated on a cash or Dining Dollars basis.
Graduate Student
Lounge
The Graduate Student Lounge in 301 Philosophy Hall provides
students with a quiet place to read, study or meet classmates. The lounge
maintains a collection of current periodicals and several computer terminals.
It is open Monday to Friday, 10am–6pm,
and tea is served every afternoon. The lounge may also be rented for workshops,
lectures or receptions.
The Earl Hall Center
The
Earl Hall Center serves students from all schools of the University by
sponsoring programs which address the spiritual and humanitarian concerns of the
community. Earl Hall serves as the center for many campus activities and is the
home to over 40 student groups and the United Campus Ministries.
Among
the programs of the Earl Hall Center is Community Impact, a service project
comprised of more than 650 student volunteers which operates a shelter, soup
kitchen, big brother/big sister program, entitlements clinic for the homeless,
tutoring programs, adult education classes, a food pantry, free clothing program
and an elderly visiting project.
Athletic Facilities
Columbia offers a variety of recreational facilities for use
by students. On the Morningside campus, the Marcellus Hartley Dodge Physical
Fitness Center offers swimming pools, basketball courts, squash and handball
courts, a weight room, several exercise machine rooms, shower and sauna
facilities and a running track. The Center has ample locker facilities which may
be rented on a daily or per semester basis.
On the Health Sciences
campus, the Bard Athletic Club offers a swimming pool, squash courts, a
gymnasium, Nautilus and Universal exercise equipment, free weights, stationary
bicycles and rowing machines. The BAC also has locker rooms, shower and sauna
facilities.
The University also has a number of tennis courts located on
the Morningside campus and at 218th Street in Manhattan at the Baker Field
athletic complex.
