The research activities of the program are in the areas of cell biology, molecular biology, and biophysics. More than 90 faculty from seven departments are potential research advisers for students. Special Admission Requirements


  1. Only candidates for the Ph.D. degree will be admitted.
  2. One full year each of general chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, physics, biology, and calculus. Admission may be granted in exceptional cases to applicants who have not fulfilled all of these requirements. In such cases, the deficiencies are remedied after admission by adding appropriate courses to the curriculum.
  3. The General Graduate Record Examination is required. One subject test in either biochemistry, biology, cell and molecular biology, chemistry, physics, or mathematics is recommended.
