The GSAS Teaching Center, which was started in 1999 as part of the Office of the Dean to provide support to teaching fellows, is housed in 302 Philosophy Hall. The work of the Center includes:

• The GSAS Teaching Guidelines, which set forth the school-wide regulations that govern the appointment and training of teaching fellows

• A teaching manual, organized around the diverse teaching roles filled by graduate students at Columbia, that offers practical advice concerning the issues that arise as teaching fellows make the transition from student to instructor

• An ongoing series of workshops, where faculty and graduate students meet to share ideas on teaching methods such as leading discussions, lecturing, and responding to student writing

• Workshops, consultation, and online advice on teaching portfolios, as well as a list of online and print resources

• Online tips for writing grant proposals and links to resources on grant seeking and other aspects of professional development.
