NEW GSAS Rules and Regulations describes most of the policies that apply to students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Web sites are listed for those University regulations that have too much information to supply in detail here. All M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. students should familiarize themselves with and follow the regulations of the University, the Graduate School, and their individual programs of study. Please be aware that lack of knowledge about University, GSAS and/or departmental rules and policies cannot excuse students for failure to comply with these regulations.
Specifically, the information in this booklet should be supplemented by Facts About Columbia Essential To Students (FACETS) at http://www.columbia.edu/cu/facets/, which provides a complete description of University policies and resources relevant to all students. In addition, students in free-standing M.A. or Liberal Studies M.A. programs should consult GSAS M.A. Student Handbook, and students in Ph.D. programs or the D.M.A. program should consult GSAS Ph.D. Student Handbook, both on the GSAS web site at http://www.columbia.edu/cu/gsas/.
Although the degree and academic requirements in place normally will not change within any given academic year, other GSAS policies are reviewed and updated regularly. The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences reserves the right to make changes at any time. To be certain of a GSAS rule or policy, please contact gsas_dean@columbia.edu or call 212-854-2861.
