Transferring credit from outside Columbia: A maximum of 12 points of transfer
credit in total may be transferred, including 6 taken for courses within the
University and 6 for courses taken outside the University (this rule is not
applicable to Human Rights Studies students). The courses transferred must be
graduate-level courses that have a specific relationship to the program chosen.
They must have been completed at the time of admission to the program and have
not been used toward fulfillment of requirements for another degree (double dipping). No credit is given for
life experience or for correspondence courses. Transfer credit must be approved
by the admissions review committee and the dean. Once students are admitted,
they must complete all their remaining course work at Columbia.
Transferring credit from other divisions
of Columbia: A
maximum of 12 points in courses taken at Columbia as a non-matriculated student
may be accepted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree, with
the approval of the admissions review committee and the Dean. Courses must be
graduate-level courses (4000 level and above) and have a relationship to the
chosen program and may not have been used toward fulfillment of requirements
for another degree.
